If you have already experienced a removal of any kind, then you know just how stressful, exhausting and nerve-wracking a relocation can be. Just the act of finding the right removal company can take its toll on harried homeowners looking for the best deal but also wanting competent and reliable service. With that in mind, it is no surprise that overseas removals rank among the most tension-filled events through which individuals must live. Whether you are in a couple, have a family or are on your own, the thought of having to pack up and move your life to a completely new country can be daunting.

However, the good news is that overseas removals should not be a cause of undue stress and worry. Instead, they should be an opportunity for adventure and new beginnings. In order to experience the latter kind of relocation it is crucial that you do not sink into the kind of traps that will make the move tougher than it has to be. The key to a smooth and fun relocation is to stay organised. It is only by staying organised that you will be able to stay on-top-of all the tiny details that need to be addressed before you jet-off.

Having a comprehensive list of what needs to be done before leaving is the best way to remember everything. Each time you think about something else that needs to get done – put it on your list. Remember that your master list should contain everything that needs to get done while your other lists such as packing, notification and document lists should all be combined into your master list and that master should be with you at all times.

Your master list should have a global overview of everything that needs to get done.

You packing list should have a detailed account of where each item packed can be found in a hurry if the need should arise.

Your documents lists should cover all of the visas, permits and licenses you need to either cancel or obtain before heading to your new life.

Your animal list should contain all of your pets along with everything that needs to get done for them before departure including vaccinations, clearance forms and quarantine regulations.

Your notifications list should have a listing of all the people, places, businesses, professionals (doctors, dentists, etc…), credit card companies, banks, utility companies and others that you will need to notify concerning your change of address. Do not forget that you will have to also ask the post office to forward your mail for a certain amount of time if necessary.

Keeping track of everything that needs to be done is the only way you will be able to survive your overseas relocation with your sanity intact. Hiring your removal company early on is also a very good idea as most removal companies get booked up the closer you get to your date – and many will charge more for last minute bookings than they would for early bookings.

In the end, overseas removals can be an exciting time – as long as you take the time to plan them properly.
