Even if you have purchased a home before, it is best to have a Realtor who represents your interests. Often times people think they will get a better deal by not working with a Realtor, but remember, the seller will more than likely have a Realtor who has the sellers best interest in mind, not yours.

Third, sit down with your Realtor and determine what type of home you want, based on what you have been pre approved for. Also, another very important consideration is the location where you will be searching for a home. Often times, homes for sale look like a great deal, but there is something wrong with the area such as below par schools, crime, etc. Be sure to find an area that has a history of home value appreciation so your home will remain an investment.

Finally, you should make your home purchase decision based on common sense and not emotion. Emotional purchases often end up based as some things buyers wouldn't normally accept are overlooked because of their emotions. Be sure to base your final decision on logic based on your needs, budget, and the location of the property.
