When Foreclosure Comes Knocking

If you think that only people can go through make- overs then you are extremely wrong. ABC’s TV programs Extreme Makeover: Home Editions proves that even houses can go through make- overs and with surprisingly different twist. The program however announced that it is going to lie low for a while because of the several complains coming in that most of the homes which had make-overs are now on the verge of foreclosures.
The Extreme Make Over: Home Edition airs every Thursday night. It is basically geared towards home renovation while the owners are away so that when they come back, they’ll gonna have the shock of their lives.
And true enough, most of them were shocked, yet devastatingly shocked. Most of the houses that went through extreme make over are now facing foreclosures. Such as the case of the family in Clayton, Georgia whose house went through make over in 2005. Another family in Oak Park, Michigan are also having money problems, blaming it to the extreme make over. They have a son who was blind and mentally incapacitated. Once the renovation was completed, viewers watched Judy and Larry Vardon coming to their new home.
It might have been fine at first. Much to their dismay, four years after, they felt that the mortgage was too much to handle. The amount of their mortgage doubled and they have bigger house maintenance fees since the renovation. The make over was allegedly done to address the needs of their sick child however they felt that it only made matters worse. Aside from their problem of the risk of losing their home, they are also worried because their medical insurance does not cover autism treatments.
Susan Tom, home owner who had her house made over was however happy with the results. Susan is a kind lady who adopts children from all over the world who have disabilities. The children live in her 25-year old house wherein those in wheelchair have trouble moving around and they have to crawl upstairs when they have to sleep.
While the Tom family is enjoying a weekend away at Disneyland, the Extreme Make Over team renovated her house. They put elevator in it and raised their ceiling. When the family returned they were astounded, shocked, they got speechless and shaky.
After all these years, the Tom family still couldn’t how blessed they were regarding the renovation. Sometimes they would even drive around the block and see if the house is still there which is sitting awkwardly between two smaller houses.
Susan saw this as a way for the children to learn to be independent. They could now freely move around and are capable of doing new things.
Although Susan admits that her bills have gone up since the renovation, she feels that it is just worth the convenience it has given her kids. She is one of the lucky people who seemed to have been blessed with the Extreme Make Over which seemed like a curse to some.
