"Performance management is the foundation of any organization that has a vision and knows where they want to be in the near and long term future. As today's rapidly evolving business environment challenges organizations to adapt to constant change, the need for organizations to be sure that their projects and activities are aligned with overall strategic goals and business objectives is critical. Performance management is the gauge that lets you know whether or not you are reaching strategic goals and which areas within your service delivery could use improvement. It used to be that performance was isolated to one department. Today, every division within an organization can benefit from it. Performance management spans across various management functions and helps ensure that your people, processes and technology are working together to achieve your organization's missions and goals.
Over the years, effective performance management has been proven to improve employee loyalty, morale and general productivity. Due mainly to the highly competitive business environment today, there is the need for firms to boost the morale and loyalty of their employees in order to stand the heat of competition. Because of the high cost of selection, recruitment, training and developing new employees, it is imperative for firms to motivate and retain their high performing employees.
Every company that employs workforce performance management techniques has only one goal in mind - improve productivity. However, this may not be all it takes. While it is good to know all work-related issues concerning employees, simply confining the resolutions to these issues to the human resources aspect of management may not be enough. There need to be business-focused initiatives that are in line with objectives of improving profitability. The general framework of these workforce performance campaigns generally bring benefit in terms of individual actions. But for the techniques to bring concrete profitable results, they need to be set up in collaboration with the actual profit-generating strategies of the company.
When making sure that performance management tools are in place, the value of teamwork must be given utmost importance. This is because as individuals, employees cannot possibly bring significant contributions to the company without the support of each and everyone involved in their own work cycles. For example, the production staff must be allowed to communicate more with the sales and marketing department to increase the chances that profitability is still the end result of these performance measures. While staff can improve in their own functions in whatever department or position they are assigned, they still cannot work enough alone to boost the company's chance of increasing its revenues.
After all, a company needs to have clearly defined business goals in order to succeed. When employees' performance is assessed with importance on their ability to work collaboratively with others in the different departments, then their individual performances may amount to something that can significantly bring about more opportunities for development as a whole and as a company with its defined business goals.
In other words, organizational improvement becomes the vehicle characterized by the performance checking with end results being the fulfillment of the company's objectives. This, in turn, boosts employees' confidence in their job and their ability to do higher quality work at the end of each day. Of course, all of these open more avenues for more earnings for the company which will then translate to higher pay, more benefits or a combination of both. Again, these things will provide employees' performance another boost for the cycle of development to go on further.

Workforce management definitely helps business organizations especially in their candidate screening system. But these aren’t limited to businesses alone; they can be used by academic institutions as well in areas like their college student retention programs, surveys and the like.
