Chiropractors have been treating their patients since 1895. When Daniel David Palmer adjusted Harvey Lillards spinal column restoring his hearing. Harvey had lost his hearing when he was earlier kicked by a horse. Daniel Palmer thought that the horse had changed something in the spine to dislocate causing his hearing loss. He reasoned that if he could move the spine in the opposite direction then the hearing would naturally return and he was right!

Ever since that day many different scientific experiments have been performed to prove this kind of treatment. Many other professions including physiologists, clinical researchers, osteopaths, and neurologists have performed these studies. The evidence is now largely pointing that chiropractic treatment is a very useful and effective treatment.

The theory of chiropractic treatment is that all the control of the body is in the nervous system. If the nervous system were to be disabled then all the other functions of the body would cease to work causing disease, illness and pain.

The biggest conductor for communication in the body is through the spinal cord and the main nerve that runs down the spinal column. External pressure on the spine can affect the flow of communication that passes through the spine. A good example of this is a condition called sciatica. This is a condition in which the sciatic nerve, a large nerve that goes down the back of the leg, is compromised or pinched. This kind of pain can be debilitating. A Chiropractor may adjust the lumbar vertebrae which will relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve which will also relieve pain. There are many different nerves in the body that control different things but their biggest thing is the passing of communication. Chiropractic care can relieve pressure that builds up. Just like in example of the sciatic nerve.
