A service based business is one of the online businesses you can choose to get started. You offer some type of service to potential clients. Some of these services include: Writing, Virtual assistant, Accounting (bookkeeping), Web Design, etc.

Some small business owners have not a time to do all of their business jobs by

themselves, so they outsource those tasks to someone else. They are looking for people who offer the services they need to be completed for their business. If you have some experience in these (or other that not listed) areas, you can offer it as a service by starting your own business online by selling your skills and experience. For example, if you have some writing experience and you can write on topics they need, you can offer writing as a service to them who need unique and quality articles for their sites.

Depending on the type of service you are going to provide, you should have some good skills. It's not necessary to have the degrees to perform these services, but clients want to see that you have enough skills to complete the tasks they need done. Working online doesn't require the personally contact that companies have when they hire employees. Trust comes harder online, so people do like to know that the person they are hiring has required skills and knowledge in a particular field. It not always is needed to have many years experience performing a service, but the fact that you have done it before and have some good references helps tremendously.

The tools you will need depend on the services you plan to provide. The more common tools that most service based businesses online should have are: Reliable Internet access, Phone, E-mail account and software, Website or blog. There will probably be some more software programs needed too. Each service uses different programs, but most need such programs as a Word processor and Excel program, and some services need a web designing program as well. You should consider an instant online messaging program for those clients who like to contact you instantly without having to use the phone to call.

The first thing you have to do is decide on what service you will to offer your clients. Next, get your website or blog created to market your skills or experience and provide clients with references from other people who have used your skills. Place any other information about how you run your business. When clients contact you to hire you for service they need, let them know how they will be invoiced for the work done and how much it will cost, etc.

It will take awhile to build a list of regular clients, so don't expect to be making big money quick. Be patient and keep marketing your service based business until you get to the point where you have to turn away clients because you're too busy. Running a service based business is a perfect option for those who already are performing that service at another job.
