Mouth Yeast Infection
Yeast is a fungus that lives around us in the natural order of the universe. This is also known as Candida albicans or Monilia. One can find it usually in the digestive tracks as well as in vaginal tracks of women. There is no difference between yeasts that grow in the vaginal areas and those that grow in the mouth or throat areas causing the mouth yeast infection. This infection occurs when the normally dormant small quantities of yeast grows rapidly and produces toxins. When it occurs in the mouth area, it becomes a mouth yeast infection, which is commonly known as thrush.
A mouth yeast infection is caused by a few factors. One of them is taking too many antibiotics. These antibiotics reduce the immune system and make it favorable for an overgrowth of yeast cells. With the reduced resistance, a mouth yeast infection becomes a natural result.
Some of the other factors causing mouth yeast infections are diabetes, malnutrition, drug abuse and a weakened immune system. As it is, the immune system is not all that strong in infants or the elderly. This is where a mouth yeast infection finds a home more easily. Particularly, when the elderly wear dentures that are not a perfect fit, the membranes inside the mouth are damaged and allow the yeast cells to start infecting the tissues.
Mouth yeast infections have a white or light brown discharge and you can see light yellow spots inside the mouth, especially if the yeast has infected the mucous membranes of the mouth. You will feel a burning sensation and itching in your mouth and throat areas when a mouth yeast infection occurs. Before treating a mouth yeast infection, it is important to identify the cause of the problem. Replacing dentures would be far easier than re-building a weakened immune system. You may need to change your diet, shore up on the general health needs and develop a natural resistance to infections. You may also need to take antifungal drugs. These come in the form of pastilles that you can suck on. These pastilles act directly on the infection and help in curing the mouth yeast infection.
You could also use natural home remedies. A mouth yeast infection could either be a minor irritant or a severe discomfort. Awareness of its causes will help in spotting it at its early stages and adopting ways to combat it immediately. It is important to realize that a mouth yeast infection can be more dangerous than a vaginal yeast infection. A mouth yeast infection can be very painful and make your mouth and throat feel raw, with patches appearing on your tongue and inner lips. If untreated, it can spread to other organs of the body. You will need to watch for mouth yeast infections and take the necessary steps to stop it from becoming worse.
