With tennis ranked as one of the most prestigious sports in the world, it is no surprise that the sport will only command nothing less but the best of the playing courts as well. Back in the days when tennis was first played, there were only natural grass courts available for players. Soon enough, court owners found that the exorbitant costs in maintaining natural grass courts became increasingly expensive because of the labor intensive mowing, watering and fixing of its surface required. Today however, you can see a variety of tennis court fields available ranging from clay, hard, carpet or grass ones with each of its own benefits and advantages. What is very apparent is that artificial grass is replacing natural grass in many tennis courts today, and this has become the obvious choice in recent years.
Besides its ability to significantly outlast natural grass, artificial turfs are far more cheaper to maintain as it does not require any mowing and watering hence saving labor and water costs. Because artificial grass cannot die like natural grass, it does not require any replanting and constant preventative maintenance or fertilizers to ensure healthy soil and nutrition. Its superior durability and ability to withstand normal wear and tear compared to natural grass makes it an ideal choice for tennis courts. Instead of limiting access of tennis courts to different level of players because of higher chances of surface ruins caused by less experienced players, this is no longer a huge concern for tennis courts using artificial grass. Artificial grass, unlike natural grass, is far more durable and resistant to surface ruins, not to mention injuries potentially caused by an uneven playing field.
Poor weather will no longer be an excuse for skipping out on a practice or game with artificial grass. Thanks to its water drainage system and inability to absorb water, it dries incredibly faster than natural grass and, in most instances, it is possible to play on in the morning after long periods of rain. Another big plus for players is the longer lasting tennis shoes. Unlike natural grass, artificial grass will not cause your tennis shoes to soil or stain, hence requiring less maintenance in general from cleaning and harsh scrubbing.
It is no surprise that hard courts are highly preferred compared to other surfaces because it helps improve players’ ability to accurately estimate time, speed and direction when a ball hits the court. The ability of artificial grass to mimic hard court characteristics such as surface grip, natural feel underneath your foot and reaction time makes it a favorite. With many types of artificial grass turfs available in the market today which will accommodate to specific needs on the tennis courts, it is no surprise that artificial grass is an obvious winning choice.
