Quick diets can give you permanent results if they lead to permanent changes in the way you eat. Most fast diets cannot do that, since they are too extreme to follow long term and do not introduce any realistic ways to change your regular daily food regime. Therefore we can safely say that most quick diets are not good in a long run, quite the opposite. People following the quick diets are in danger of falling into yo-yo dieting, also called weight cycling, which is both frustrating and unhealthy. These diets are based on the calorie theory about weight managing.

The calorie theory assumes that the less calories we consume, the leaner we will be. Since fat is the substance with most calories in it, we have been led to believe that it is fat which makes us gain weight and that we can stay thin, healthy and beautiful by reducing our fat consumption and by exercising more. Many people are desperately trying to follow these pieces of advice, but with very disappointing results. While the diet products and gym memberships are getting more popular, there are more and more obesity and weight-related diseases like diabetes and vascular diseases. Something is not right here. It seems that the low calorie diets are not working as intended.

If the quick diets do not work, what to do then? The good news are that there is a way to both lose some weight fast and not end up gaining it back soon after the diet is over. All the diet plans which do not concentrate on your calorie intake but are about keeping an eye on your carbohydrate intake, can give you great, long-lasting results.

According to the carbohydrate theory, it is not fat which makes us fat, it is sugar in any form: in potatoes, pastry, candy, pasta, bread…. Every food high on carbohydrates is actually high on sugar, since that is what the body breaks carbohydrates into. Sugar raises the blood sugar (glucose) level, which in turn makes the body produce insulin to get the glucose levels back to normal. Insulin stores the glucose to the organs, but their storage space is limited, and when it gets full the rest of the sugar is stored as body fat. Often the insulin rush is so high, that the blood sugar gets too low pretty soon after we have eaten, and we get hungry again. Then the whole cycle will start all over with a new sugar load and an insulin rush. That is paradoxical, since all the energy storages are full. Insulin also blocks the body from using body fat as energy. If you eat often and have insulin in your blood all the time, your weight losing attempts are pretty much doomed.

If you cut carbohydrates from your diet, you must get your energy somewhere else. That is why you start eating more natural fat and change your metabolism: you will no longer use sugar but fat as fuel. You will notice your body getting slimmer and the fat storages disappearing. This also works on cellulite! Natural fats are great for people on a diet. They keep you satisfied for a lot longer, and after a while you will also lose your interest in snacking. Sounds unbelievable, but it is true.

Low carbohydrate diets can be seen as quick diets since people usually drop a lot of pounds in the beginning of the diet. Make sure to take your measures before starting, that way you can follow your progress and see the results with your own eyes!
