Nose Problems
A respiratory system that is too sensitive to the particles that gets into it is very much susceptible to different kinds of infections. These particles pass through the mouth or the nose in order to get to your respiratory system. When these also get to your sinuses, you may develop sinusitis. Headache, nasal congestion and facial pain are some of the problems you may have to deal with when you have sinusitis. When unwanted particles make your body react by having rashes, itching, sneezing or a runny nose, you might be having an allergy attack. Allergies and sinusitis have very similar symptoms. Otolaryngologists can assist you more in trying to distinguish one from the other.
There may also be structural problems related to your nose. A deviated septum, or an abnormality in your nose’s bone structure, can cause disruption in breathing, and can make your nose a potential breeding ground for trapped bacteria and fungi. Nasal polyps, or abnormal growths of mass inside the nose, are also cause for concern, especially when they become large enough to aggravate infections like sinusitis, rhinitis, asthma and allergies. X rays can be recommended by your otolaryngologist as needed, to determine the next steps for eliminating these kinds of nose problems.
Treatment
"An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure" – this may be a cliché, but it holds true when it comes to treating all kinds of illnesses like the nose problems mentioned above. Like for allergies – the best thing to do in dealing with these is to avoid the particles that trigger your allergy attacks. But if you are wondering what measures you can do to tackle your problems head on, here are some tips:
-
Home remedies are proven to be extremely helpful in providing temporary relief. For symptoms like nasal congestion, breathing in steam can help loosen up thick mucus that is stuck in your nasal passages. The steam will also provide moisture to the areas of your nose, and in turn reduce any swelling of the lining of the sinuses and nose. It will provide relief to facial pain also.
-
Another home remedy would be to drink hot liquids like tea and soup, as well as beverages like citrus juice and plain water. These will help in helping out excess mucus (as well as unwanted particles in your nose) to be flushed out when blowing your nose.
-
However, these remedies are not enough to get rid of the infection permanently. Drug medications are equally beneficial, so see your otolaryngologist to get the right prescription, as necessary. Nasal decongestants and other sinusitis and allergy medicines can take the form pills, tablets, or sprays that enable you to apply topical medication to the areas of your nose.
