One of the most common questions that I am asked is, "Danyelle, What are some healthy snacks, I am a busy mom desperately trying to lose weight". I don't have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen preparing gourmet meals for the family. I work a full-time job and want to spend as much time with the kids when I am home. I also want to have the children eating healthy meals that I feel good about and are making my children healthy. Do you have any quick snacks that are yummy, healthy that my children and I will both love?

The answer to that very important question, is "Yes". You will want to find a snack that has a protein, carb, and fat, that way you and your children's blood sugar levels stay balanced.

One of my favorite snacks, that is very nutrient dense and will help stabilize your blood sugar levels (hint: when your blood sugar levels are balanced you will loose weight!). Hard boiled eggs are easy to carry around as snacks and very easy to prepare. I drop my 12 pasture-raised, free-range eggs in cold water in my cast iron sauce pan. I wait until the water starts to boil, then I turn off stove top and put the cover on. I let the eggs sit in the water for 10 mins...then your done. Dump out the water, run the eggs under cold water so you don't burn yourself. Grab you Celtic Sea Salt (the brand that I love!), and you are out the door.

Unless you are allergic or have a sensitivity to eggs, eggs will help you loose weight. Here's why: eggs are nutrient dense! When you eat nutrient dense foods you won't overeat and you won't crave sugar! Overeating is because you are not receiving the nutrients and vitamins your body needs to carry out it's daily functions...which leads to more eating, especially refined carbs that contain sugar (breads, pastas, cookies, pastries, etc.).

As an FYI, "In 1821, the average sugar intake in America was 10lbs per person per year, today it is 170lbs per person!!!" If 1/2 your diet must provide all the nutrients to your body that is under constant stress from its intake of sugar, white flour, rancid and hydrogenated vegetable oils...one of the huge reasons we gain weight! We are malnourished!

Why eggs are great snacks for weight loss:

  1. Provide High-Vitamin A and D (only when you eat the yolk with the white)

  2. You will feel fuller longer because it is a nutrient dense food

  3. Helps with controlling hunger and food cravings because eggs contain leucine, which is an essential amino acid that is found in eggs which helps you keep lean muscle tissue, helps in the promotion of body fat, and is good at stabilizing blood sugar levels.
