State of Emergency

Hellifyno remains in a state of emergency this week, as citizens struggle to recover from the devastation that was wrought by the temporary death of the planet's sun. The unseasonable cold and thick blanket of summer snow that descended on the world as a result of this cataclysm ravaged the planet's natural resources, wiping out whole species, and leaving the surface of Hellifyno largely devoid of plant or animal life.

Farmers are scurrying to replant crops and repair fields in an effort to salvage anything from the end of the growing season. Meanwhile food stores continue to dwindle, and the population is relying on off-world imports more and more just to make ends meet, creating a growing trade deficit that threatens to strangle the economy.

Nature mages and terraformers have united under the auspices of the Lady Echo to try and restore some of the plant and animal life that she was able to preserve during the crisis. However, the rebirth of life on the planet;s surface is slow, and even with powerful magical and scientific forces working to encourage growth, the time it takes for a plant to grow from seed to sapling is still frustratingly long.

The lack of supplies has caused the price of food and other essential items to skyrocket. In reaction to this, the government of Hellifyno, in conjunction with a variety of charitable organizations, has set up distribution points across the planet to offer aid and nourishment to those struggling during the reconstruction process.

State of War

To add to the turmoil of the beleaguered planet, locations across Hellifyno continue to be subject to attacks from roaming bands of Fae warriors. Ranging in size from just a few hundred, to tens of thousands of strange and exotic creatures, these hordes have managed to conquer or destroy at least 50 towns, villages, and small cities across the world.

The Hellifyno Army has been working around the clock to oppose Fae attacks, resulting in a state of perpetual conflict on the planet. Hundreds of battles and skirmishes have been fought, straining the resources of the military, and slowly eroding the ranks of healthy, able bodied soldiers available to protect the populace.

Lord Executive Havoc has called on all citizens with military experience to aid in the conflict in any way that they can. The powerful patrons of the Blue Moon Tavern are being specifically enlisted to help in the defense of the planet. This has led to the re-commissioning of many of the heroes of the Slayer War, who are once again donning armor and taking up swords to protect their home world from forces that seek to destroy it.

Anthropophage

A terrifying new captain of the Fae forces has emerged recently to spread insanity and fear across the countryside. Named Anthropophage, this creature appears as a small winged child, bleeding crimson blood from every pore in his body. He has at his command a dizzying array of violent and monstrous creatures, which he has already thrown into battle against a variety of locations. His most recent attack involved a large shifting monster that broke through the doors of the popular Blue Moon Tavern, terrorizing the patrons within until it was subdued by their heroic efforts.

Anthropophage is a high ranking member of the Winter Court, and one of the most famous Fae warriors in history, known for his violent madness and ruthlessness in battle.

The Battle of Ideologies

The turmoil experienced on Hellifyno has led to the disillusionment of many of its citizens. A group of covert individuals calling themselves "The Anarchists" has arisen out of this volatile political climate, taking advantage of the general unrest, and setting themselves up as violent opposition to the current governmental structure on the planet. Led by a man known only as "The Nameless One" this group is particularly critical of Lord Executive Havoc and the core members of his cabinet.

The Anarchists have already perpetrated a variety of violent acts, including, but not limited to, riots, lynchings, bombings, and the poisoning of a variety of essential food and medical supply lines. This has resulted in the deaths of thousands as well as millions of dollars in property damage and infrastructure loss.

While the populace at large does not seem to sympathize with the methods of the Anarchists, their actions are starting to cause many people to doubt the efficacy and reliability of the Government. A series of documents released under anonymity, shows evidence of a variety of corrupt individuals working on the local level of Hellifyno’s government with a paper trail that seems to lead back to the Lord Executive’s office.

In a series of speeches and written statements Proconsul Tye Sampson has labeled the group "terrorists" accusing them of being cowards who hide behind anonymous violence, and calling on them to air their grievances in public, in front of the citizens of Hellifyno.

Insanity Spreads

The surreal twisting of reality which has been experienced planetwide over the course of the past few weeks appears to be getting more overt and wide spread. Reports of floating colors, inanimate objects coming to life, strange sounds filling the air, random changes in environment, location, temperature, and the appearance of apparitions are being reported on a daily basis.

These reports are difficult to organize due to the fact that large swaths of the population seem to be suffering from various mental defects, bouts of mania, or insanity, which are causing otherwise normal people to behave in very unusual ways. The prisons are filled nearly to the brink with innocent citizens who are simply too crazy to be left free.

While there is no definite cause for these strange events, most supernatural theorists hypothesize that the presence of such large amounts of Fae magic is causing the nature of reality to break down. They point to the appearance of the 13 towers of insanity as being the probable source for this unraveling effect. Most scholars agree that until a way is found to assault and destroy these locations, the incumbent madness will only get worse.
