The half-term breaks in the winter and early spring are ideal for booking family skiing holidays, as they offer plenty of time to get to grips with the slopes and enjoy the mountain scenery you will find yourself in.
So what are the best destinations to head to for half-term skiing holidays? Here are a few ideas to help you find a dream winter sports getaway that all the family will love.
Chamonix, France
Chamonix is a hugely popular ski resort - and it's little wonder why. The French commune caters well for children, with a host of activities, events and clubs on offer for young ones of all ages.
There are plenty of easy runs to ensure all the family can enjoy their stay in Chamonix and experienced instructors can safely teach both child and adult beginners the basics of skiing.
Saas-Fee, Switzerland
Saas-Fee is a beautiful village in the Swiss Alps offering plenty to do for both skiers and non-skiers - perfect for families where some love to ski and others don't!
Beginners will be able to take advantage of slopes specifically for those with not much experience on skis and the scenic streets of the village offer plenty of diversions when not on the piste.
Courchevel, France
Courchevel is another resort that knows how to cater for skiers with children. Childcare facilities are available, while features such as swimming pools and kid-friendly activities attract families from around the world.
In terms of skiing, there are 600 km of prepared and maintained pistes, with skiers able to enjoy a host of dramatic panoramas and beautiful scenery as they make their way along the slopes.
Zermatt, Switzerland
Zermatt isn't just for winter sports holidays - there's snow to be had all year round.
It features 350 km of pistes for skiers of all levels and a host of facilities and activities aimed at children, including an ice rink, an attraction explaining how local cheese is made, indoor climbing and tobogganing.
St Anton, Austria
St Anton is a picturesque little town with great facilities for families. You can book ski lessons for children and leave the youngest ones - from the age of two and a half - at the local kindergarten.
Around 440 km of slopes can be found in and around St Anton and skiers at all levels are well catered for.
