International movers have become big business in recent years and due to the high proliferation of overseas removals providers there has also been a push to create International Movers Associations to regulate and monitor the industry. Without associations to set limits, draw up guidelines and provide mediation in disputes, both moving companies and the public alike are left floundering and without any safety net or support should a shipment or delivery not go as planned. There are currently seven international movers associations operating worldwide. As long as the moving companies that you deal with belong to one of these seven associations then you can rest assured that you will be getting top notch service.
One of the better known international movers associations around is the FIATA or "Federation Internationale des Associations de Transitaires et Assimiles." In English the name translates to "International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations." FIATA is a non-governmental organization that regulates the freight forwarding industry and presently represents about forty thousand freight and logistics providers worldwide. FIATA has consultative status with several United Nations departments and is recognized by several governmental bodies and authorities. It is currently one of the largest non-governmental associations in the field of transportation and commands tremendous influence across the globe.
Another big overseas removals associations is FIDI or the International Association of Freight Forwarders Association. As per its website, FIDI is the largest association of independent removal companies. The association’s aim is to set the industry’s moving standards so that every one of their member companies adhere to very high and very strict guidelines when it comes to international moving. The FIDI have a directory listing of all their member companies worldwide so that if anyone is interested in hiring international movers that belong to a well-established and respected association, they can do so easily. By simply consulting their directory anyone faced with an overseas removal will be able to find competent and trustworthy international movers from which they can choose.
When you are looking to hire an international moving company for your overseas removal, it is imperative that the suppliers you consult belong to an association – if they do not, then you are leaving yourself open to problems. Should you hire a company and something goes wrong, you can always turn to the association to help you resolve disputes or to act as a mediator. However, if you go through a moving broker or hire an international moving company that is not a member of an international movers association, then you will not have recourse to the same kind of support. While it is never the kind of thing people tend to think about when looking to hire an international moving company for their overseas removal, it should be taken into consideration.
Overseas removals are already stressful enough without the added stress of knowing that you will not be covered in the event of a problem. By hiring the right international movers for your overseas removal, you can guarantee that you will be supported no matter what.
