Smoking is a habit that many find it really hard to let go of, and this is due to the addictive qualities of cigarettes being denied by the tobacco companies. There are lots of ways to quit smoking that you can utilize, but understanding the many reasons to stop smoking cigarettes would hopefully make sure that after you have quit, you'd never return to it again.
The most widely known reasons to stop smoking are the chances of getting lung cancer, emphysema and heart diseases. However, there are also lots of overlooked reasons that don't get the attention they should receive, take for example to avoid mental decline or getting Alzheimer's disease. The rate at which old people obtain the disease is noticeably higher in smokers than non-smokers.
Other overlooked reasons would be macular degeneration which happens at the later stages of life. This leads to chronic blindness, with the condition ending up in a loss of the central vision. Smoking can also be linked to heart-burn. Another of the overlooked reasons is the outcome of the most recent research showing smokers to be of much bigger risk of getting breast cancer.
Giving up smoking lets you live an active lifestyle and have the stamina of a person your age. Getting into an active way of living would totally enhance your health. For those who don't plan on getting old before your time, smoking won't help you there. The fact of the matter is that many smokers have a tendency to age quicker with premature wrinkles and drooping of the skin due to the dangerous elements the cigarettes possess.
Now let's go to the financial reasons. If you stop smoking, you're going to save on the thousands of dollars spent on buying tobacco products... money that's going to be someday spent more on the medical bills to rectify the damages caused to your health. And with the government imposing taxes on these products, don't expect your cost of living to go down anytime soon.
You have your own reasons to quit smoking a cigarette, especially if you're an important member of your family who have specific responsibilities to those depending on you. Therefore, do the right thing. Stop smoking cigarettes now and set a good example for the younger generations to follow!
