Every year, the winter in Cuyo region comes with low temperatures and abundant snowfalls. In the city of Mendoza, 5 Stars Hotels get really crowded by visitors from different parts of the world. As the mountains get covered by the powder snow, the ski resorts in the province host an increasing amount of tourist, both foreign and local. These centers are located at the base of the Andean Mountain Range, not too far from the capital city on almost over the western international limit.
As regards to the ski resorts, Las Leñas is the most relevant in the country. Due to its extensive surface, it is also considered the main center in South America. For those who visit Mendoza during the winter, Las Leñas has become a fixed trip in their touring schedule. Only 430 kilometres away from the city of Mendoza, and somewhat next to Chile, this ski center has much to offer to its guests.
As the highest over the entire country, Las Leñas ski resort displays a 1200 meter slope, between its top, at 3,240 meters, ant its base at 2,240 meters. These characteristics turn it into an ideal scenario for extreme winter sports, such as ski and heli-ski. However, Las Leñas is not only meant for experienced skiers. Trails for beginners and intermediate are available for those who need a little more practice. That’s how everyone gets to try the exceptional quality of the Andean snow. Its chalky texture is strongly related to the dry weather conditions in the province of Mendoza and makes Las Leñas´ 230 hectares completely skiable all the season long.
There are 28 ski trails, destined to beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers. The access to the tracks is granted by 13 lifts, which take them up to the trails. Amateurs and beginners can ask for ski and snowboarding lessons provided by the personnel of Las Leñas. Alpinists and rock climbers get something to do, as well. Hidden in the mountains, the Valle Hermoso shelter provides protection for those brave visitors who are not afraid to spend the night in the woods.
Cuyo region has gained worldwide recognition as the land of sun and good wine. Its extraordinary weather guarantees sunny days and gentle temperatures, even in winter. The pristine and fine snow, the amazingly delicious wines and the delicate cuisine, combined with first class accommodation in Mendoza’s 5 Stars Hotels, set the whole picture for an outstanding holiday destination.
