You've got excited about writing that new article or post, dashed at it, and gotten it all written out. At that point, you know you're going to have to check it over to improve it in various ways. Not so exciting. However, if you don't stand back from it and see it with fresh eyes, you know there might be mistakes which would wipe out the whole purpose of creating it.

1 Proofread carefully. People do claim they proofread all the time. Unfortunately, this can be anywhere from glancing over it as soon as it's finished to leaving it for weeks, or forever, after the excitement of writing has died down. Try doing it twice: once just after writing it and a few hours later. But put the content in a

different context so that you literally see it differently. In any case, you know the kinds of mistakes your personally generally make and you know the kinds anybody can make. So look for them. This is why it's important to always preview an article before you submit it.

2 Get others to read it. They are literally checking over your work and correcting mistakes. Spellings and grammar are the easier ones to spot. Style and meaning are not necessarily so easy. But you ask the same person or different people to check different things. For example, ask someone to only look for spelling mistakes, as long as they're a good speller themselves, or ask them to make sure the meaning is clear to them.

3 Do it yourself. If you can't get anyone else to look at it, put yourself in the position of one of your readers, coming to your content fresh. Now, people don't usually actually read word for word but take in groups of words. But as an interested reader you would slow down. So, read through your stuff slowly as an interested reader.

4 Take time off. Just let your content be and leave it for a set amount of time. Don't just leave it and think you can come back to it at some vague time later. Set yourself a long enough time so you can stand back from it when you re-read it.
