Time management is a constant struggle for a lot of people and most of those people sing the same tune when talking about their day.
There never seems to be enough time in the day to get everything you want to get done. You finish half of the things you had to do on your daily checklist, and you now have twice the amount of tasks to do tomorrow due to today’s tasks being carried over.
What if there was a way you could make more time in your day to do the things that need to be done in order to further you business, career, life, and well being? Well, essentially there almost always is.
Most people spend most of their day doing needless things that are not furthering them towards their goals.
These include things like stalking people on face book – which let’s be honest leads to picture looking and status checking all the time, watching TV, walking around the house aimlessly, staring at walls, picking your nose....well, maybe not all these things but you get the idea. A lot of our time is used doing stuff that is mindless and unproductive.
Now if we took out all those minutes and hours that we spend doing stuff that doesn’t do us any good and is a waste of our precious time then we would have ample time to finish the tasks that actually do further us in our life.
You may think that you use your time wisely but if you really break down what you do then you will find many time slots of your day that could be better used.
Even morning routines can suck up a lot of time. Doing things that we think will make us more productive throughout the day like reading the whole paper or watching the news.
That’s just feeding our curiosity of what is happening in other people’s lives, it’s not benefiting what we are doing right now in our own lives.
How about having to enjoy our morning coffee before we can do anything productive? That time normally turns into a half an hour or more of sitting around and drinking coffee. That time could be better utilized.
Try writing down what you do from the minute you get up to when you go to bed. I’m sure you will soon see there is a pattern of needless activities that are constantly done, or time slots that could be used for better stuff or could even be used to double up activities.
For instance, watching TV is done by most people every day for at least a few hours. But if you have been putting on a few pounds or trying to lose a few pounds why not watch TV while doing some exercise? If you don’t have any exercise equipment you can join a gym and watch TV there. Or you can buy a Wii and use the Wii board to do step aerobics while watching Criminal Minds. Or you could just run in the spot instead of sitting on the couch.
If you are complaining that there is not enough time to exercise but you watch TV for hours per night then you may have to chalk it up to laziness.
If you only do one thing to improve your time management skills follow this tip: Replace or double up needless activities that do not benefit your business, career, personal life, awareness, and happiness with activities that are more beneficial to you.
