Regardless of what sort of desk you choose to invest in; comfort, ergonomics and function should be paramount. When selecting an office desk, a reception desk, or drafting desk, the desk you purchase needs to have most of the things that can make your day effective and provide you quick access to all its storage.
The desk you buy should not only complement your unique characteristics, but should also contain all the needed features to furnish you with luxury and the necessary office space to complete your day to day jobs.
Prior to picking your desk, the first thing you have to do is measure the dimensions of your work area. Knowing the size, you can figure out which desk, as well as other needed furnishings, fit into the area of your office. Keep in mind that ample space might want to be given between the desk and other office furniture, which is customarily about 3 feet apart. Plus, if you are going to be including a guest chair, give enough space to fit it, which is usually seated on the opposite side of the desk.
Now that you have decided what dimensions of desk will fit into your office space, there are many items you need to consider before selecting your desk. Thinking about what assignments you perform on a daily or regular basis will help narrow down which desk best conforms to your work style. If you spend the majority of your business day on a computer, you should invest in a computer desk or a computer workstation that has the proper amount of space and/or storage areas. Consider that the area that holds the keyboard should be at a comfortable height and large enough to hold a mouse. Next, make sure that the desk has the right amount leg space to accommodate you and your chair. The normal height for a desk is on average 29 to 30 inches. Be certain your desk has at least one grommet hole to run computer and telephone wires neatly away.
If you use most of your time writing or accounting you might want to buy a bare bones writing desk with a large writing area and a pencil drawer. More ideas could include shelving below the desk or a credenza that rests on the top of the desk that might provide you with the additional space needed for hiding papers, books, etc. An L-shaped desk might be a perfect selection, giving needed space for viewing documents or other working papers, such a ledgers. Or, if you are considerably low on work space you could think about a corner desk.
