Durango is a beautiful old city founded in 1880. The city is the county seat of La Plata County and sits at 6512 feet above sea level. Durango is surrounded by the San Juan Mountains and the Animas River Valley, close to the Four Corners area in the southwest corner of the state. With the geography and perfect climate, there are a number of things you can do year round.
Durango, CO is best known for the Historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, closeness to Mesa Verde National Park, and the home to Fort Lewis College. You will see snowcaps on mountains in winter, go rafting in the summer, and have lots of cultural festivals throughout the year.
If you are very laid back and like the quiet country life surrounded by nature, you have found your home here in Durango, CO. You could start your own ranch with a gorgeous view of the mountains. Wake up every morning sipping coffee on the front porch and just watch nature all around you.
Durango CO homes for sale are very unique in nature. You will see the old mixed in with the new. The most important thing is, no matter what you find, it will always be beautiful views. There will be unique archways, Southwest style ranches, ranches that are log cabin style, or unique woods gently blended with natural stones for accents. You will see houses not built out of standard brick or cookie cutter style down the block; there will be uniqueness. More beautiful rocks and stones will be used, all gently blending in with nature.

There will be trees mixed in with brush land and wildflowers that are only native to the area. You could build a modern style log ranch decorated with stone chimneys and fireplaces with a panoramic living room view of the ranch or the mountains.
