In high school our teachers and parents begin to show us the various career fields so that we can take an interest in something. Commonly we would blow them off until our senior year when the time has come to take the SATs and pick a college. By the time we are done with college we are on the hunt for our dream jobs. The only way that we are able to get them is to show our future employers that we have what they are searching for.
First impressions are crucial! If you go to an interview wearing a mini skirt or a five o’clock shadow than they will hear the things that you say. I don’t care if you are a genius and meet each of their requirements. Many employers don’t want somebody who looks like they walked off the street.
The garments that you wear will say a lot to them and it might be the first thing that they notice about you. You will tell a good deal about individuals by what they have. Women have to put on a professional pants suit or a skirt and blouse. Make a point that the colors are not too drastic (no hot pink!) and that it is right for your age. They don’t have to be looking at your cleavage. Men have to be wearing a suit and tie.
The hair needs to be combed straight and gelled if necessary. Men need to groom their beards and mustaches and have no shadows at all on their face unless it is trimmed and looks like you might be growing it out. Women must be careful about the quantity of makeup that they put on. Too much says you are trying too hard and not enough will make you appear tired or rundown.
Any resume or other credentials that you bring with you needs to be in a unique place that is simple to get to. Seek to buy a leather portfolio or briefcase. This appears professional and you may find that it comes in handy when at work.
It is important to Dress Right for a job interview. Learn what clothes look good and how to make use of a Leather Portfolio.
