Remote Oil Filter
The type of motor oil you use will naturally have a big impact on engine performance, but many car owners fail to realize that the way you set up your oil filter could make an even bigger impact on your maintenance procedures. Is there only one way to set up an oil filter? Absolutely not â€" a remote oil filter is one of the best ways to handle this important engine process and is starting to gain a widespread popularity.
What are some of the benefits of setting up a remote oil filter? For starters, you can make the process of changing your oil a much simpler affair. You can move the filter itself onto a bulkhead and get the job done quickly. By marking the date and weight of the oil, you can make sure you’ll know exactly when to change it. Another big benefit of the remote oil filter system is the way it can increase both oil capacity and engine cooling. The remote system will allow you to use a larger filter â€" or even two â€" and get the oil capacity as much as half a gallon higher. Running with the extra oil will make things run smoother, even when you are a quart or so short. As for cooling systems, remember that some engines are actually oil-cooled, even though they claim to be cooled by the air. An added oil capacity will let the cooling process happen more efficiently.
Meanwhile, by adding the extra capacity you're guaranteeing your engine gets a cleaner supply of oil. More filtration means cleaner oil. The other way to go about it is to replace your one large oil filter with two smaller ones. Going in this direction gives an advantage in the sense that you’ll always have a backup filter going. Even if one gets clogged or reaches its storage capacity, you’ll have a second one in place and won’t be completely shut down. By adding this extra flexibility to your oil filtration system, you will actually be able to replace oil filters without changing the oil supply. Considered by some to be an unconventional move, it will help you save a good deal of cash in the long run. A remote oil filtration kit will get you started.
Another benefit of the remote oil filter system is the way in which it can help cool your engine directly. Splashing water onto the filter will keep the temperature down. For decades, this type of solution was known only to the wisest engine practitioners. There are stories of army men in Vietnam keeping oil filters soaking in water so they would cool down the diesel engines and outlast the terribly hot conditions. You won’t have to go about it in such a difficult way.
Finally, the remote filtration system can actually solve the problem often encountered with replacement engines. Once an engine ceases being manufactured, you have to deal with the most compatible replacement. When you discover your filter is on the opposite side, you will either have to perform a very complicated operation or go with the much simpler remote oil filter system.
