The first thing that we need to discuss is, what is a ute slide on camper - and why would I choose one over a caravan?
A utililty vehicle is similar to an SUV, however it has the back half of the vehicle removed and replaced with a tray for the storage and moving of goods. The ute is an Australian icon, with the majority of tradesmen owning one because of the convenience they are for the transportation of their tools to and from building sites.
However, the camping industry has taken hold of these great vehicles and modified them by adding a slide of camper on top of the utilities tray. This camper comes in the form of a canopy and converts it into a fully functional camper van that comfortably transports and accomodates two people.
The slide on ute campers are no family camper. As I mentioned they are great for accomodating 2 people, but any more guests and it would start to get incredibly cramped. But if there are just two of you and you own a ute (and are looking to keep costs down), then a ute camper is fantastic. Because all you will need to do is purchase the slide on camper section as opposed to a full caravan or camper trailer.
The main benefit is that you will not need to drag a camper trailer or caravan around behind you, which means easier parking - and the ability to travel a bit more off the beaten track.
With a ute slide on camper, an addition of the camper would usually extends over the top of your driving cabin and which is where the bed would usually be located - meaning limited head room for sleeping.
The key when searching for a ute camper is to look around. There are a lot of different styles, so make sure you do your research. However, if you already own a utility vehicle then a slide on camper is a great choice!
Are you looking for ute campers for sale. Then you may also be interested in a pop up caravan or even an off-road camper trailer.
