Comfort Is Important
If your new football kit doesn't fit properly and is either too tight or too baggy you just won't feel comfortable, make sure you know what size you are before you purchase your new kit. You don't want to have a skin tight football shirt that resembles spandex but you don't want to look like you are wearing a dress down to your knees, it just isn't cool!
Choose The Right Team Kit
Many football clubs and international teams now have up to 3 football kits to choose from, with new kits being released every season. This gives you great choice when selecting your new football shirt.
Set A Budget
Before purchasing your new football kit make sure you have set yourself a realistic budget. If you can only afford £40 try not to be tempted into purchasing a clubs a full football kit and maybe just stick to purchasing the new football shirt instead.
Where Its Going To Be Worn
Do you wear your football kit when playing football with mates down the park or wear your shirt casually around town or is it your ritual to wear your teams colours when going down to the pub? Knowing when you are most likely to wear your football kit will help your purchase the right football shirt for you and set the right budget!
Buying The Right Kit For Others
It can be hard purchasing a football shirt from clubs you not support, however if you are buying the new club strip for a close friend or a family member take our advice and make sure you buy the shirt from the team your friend actually supports! Don't expect to remain on your die hard Arsenal mates Christmas card list if you purchase him the latest Spurs away shirt!
Plus if you are buying a new football shirt for a friend or a family member don't be afraid to ask what size they are before buying.
What Name Tag?
The first question you should ask yourself is whether you want to get a player's name, your name, a comical name or no name on the back of your shirt? If you want to personalise your football kit and get a name printed on the back choosing the right name is no easy task! Do you select your team's star player or go for the underrated workmanlike player who often sheds blood and guts for your teams cause?
When choosing a player's name on your kit, our advice would be to simply go for your favourite player, unless of course he has been linked or rumoured to leave your club in the near future!
After you have chosen what player name to have on your football kit you need to make sure you have opted for the correct shirt number. It is well worth double checking on your clubs official website what squad number that player has been allocated, as these can change each season.
If you decide to get your own name printed on the back of your football kit make sure you triple check that your name is spelt correctly before purchasing your kit. Having the name Jakc on your back may be hilarious for your mates, but it will severely lower your street cred!
If you decided to go for a comical name on the back of your football shirt, such as 'Who 8 All the Pies?' just make sure you are ready to take some banter from your fellow football fans and can take a joke.
Short or Long Sleeve?
Again wear the football shirt you feel most comfortable in. Wearing short sleeved football shirts is obviously great for the summer months, however when playing football in the bitter winter we highly recommend opting for the long sleeved shirts!
How To Look After Your Football Kit
You should try to wash your football kits ion cold water and if possible use your washing machines delicate setting. You should never use fabric softener when washing your football kit as it leaves them permanently wrinkled. Plus never dry your football kits in a dryer, they will last longer if put them on a washing line.
Avoid Eating Greasy Foods When Wearing Your Football Kit
Football kits are easily stained by greasy foods and it will be a real nightmare to remove the stains. So the next time you have ordered a Vindaloo or a Chinese takeaway make sure you are not wearing your favourite football kit as you may gain the unwanted addition of a grease stain beside your club crest!
Be Proud
Wearing your team's football kit is an expression of the team you love; don't be ashamed to wear your kit even if your team has just been thrashed 5-0 by your local rivals. When wearing your football shirt you are showing your true support to your team and you should never be ashamed to do so!
