Many nurses today are under the impression that after they serve as a nurse
in a facility for over 15, 20, and 30 years that they should automatically be
advanced up the chain of command and into positions of leadership. Too often
this does happen and how unfortunate that predicament can be for the nurses
who are under that type of leadership. Advancing into nursing leadership
should come with nursing education, training and years of service. Notice
that years of service is appropriated at the end. Proper training to lead
others is a necessity in the healthcare market and should not be overlooked.
Nursing education is at the top of the poll because of the tools needed to be
an effective leader in either hospitals, clinics or community health centers.
Many nurses who have found themselves working really hard to advance in
healthcare become frustrated when their salaries do not match their
educational level, investment in self-development, and years of loyal
dedication to their employers. They become exhausted with their day to day
routine of giving so much to others and feeling as though no one really cares
or is willing to give back to them. This is one of the reasons why many
nurses who are women have decided that in this 21st century they are not
lying down and being bulldozed over any longer. Many nurses are branching
off, stepping outside of the norm and taking charge of their futures by
becoming Nursing Entrepreneurs.
As a nursing entrepreneur nurses have complete control of their success,
freedom and income. I know for myself, over 5 years ago I branched away from
the appearingly stable hospital setting to start my own Healthcareer Training
Center for nurses. It was frightening at first not knowing if I would have
success or not. After about two years of gathering the right information,
creating streams of income, and finding my place in the community I can truly
say that being a nursing entrepreneur has given me the opportunity to advance
myself in the healthcare sector. In my business I earn a six-figure income
but not only that my biggest reward is in seeing the faces of the people we
serve after completion of a training class. The great thing is that I am
still using my nursing skills to help people and influence their lives and I
could not be happier doing what I do. Here are 6 important steps I use to be
a successful nursing entrepreneur in my business:
Step One: Create value when providing service to customers. In creating value
I mean give them something to remember about their experience with your
company.
Step Two: Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Imagine that
it's your daughter or son receiving the service, wouldn't you want them
to receive the best? Always under promise and over deliver is my motto.
Step Three: Set business goals weekly, monthly and yearly. Keep track of the
goals you reach and those you do not reach to create a new game plan for
later.
Step Four: Be persistent in everything you do and never become frustrated
when at first try you don't succeed.
Step Five: Hire the right staff and surround yourself with positive
progressive people.
Step Six: Find a cause that's bigger than you that you believe in and offer
yourself, your nursing knowledge, gifts and talents. Giving to others is the
key way success in life and in your business as a nursing entrepreneur. To
