All those, who catch Xena episodes would agree, that this show has managed to give a whole new definition to adventure, by providing the best possible adventure plots, in a superb package, that comes with a dash of fantasy and a glimpse into the super natural. This show never fails to transport one into a parallel universe, that manages to inspire awe like nothing else does. Xena has delivered many memorable episodes over its six seasons, but there’s one episode that manage to beguile audiences in an unparalleled manner.
This episode was the 12th of season three, and was titled 'The Bitter Suite'. What made this episode stand apart, was it being a rare musical episode of the series. This episode managed to blend humor and drama in a manner, that was never seen before. If you happened to miss this must-watch, you can download it or watch Xena online, to get ravished by this spectacular episode.
The fact that this episode was nominated for two Emmy awards speaks volumes for its brilliance. The first nomination was of composer Joseph LoDuca for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for the song 'Love of Your Love', and the second one was of LoDuca and lyricist Dennis Spiegel for the song 'Hearts Are Hurting', in the same category. I’m sure you can no longer resist the temptation to watch Xena, if not for anything else, then to give yourself an unsurpassable musical treat.
This episode brings Xena and Gabrielle together in the Land of Illusia, forcing them to work together, so as to escape alive. We see them getting over their past grudges, as they put their heads together to draft a plan for their getaway. The enemy of Gabrielle and Xena, Callisto, aided by Ares and Joxer, is seen in the episodes as their guide. This episode, like all other Xena episodes, focuses on the bond between Xena and Gabrielle, and it’s interesting to watch them deal with all the problems that tore them apart, and try to come back together with the same affinity that they shared when they first met each other.
Incase you missed the factor that drifted these two strong allies apart, you can watch Xena online or download the series, while I give you a glimpse of what went wrong between them. The thirst for vengeance that’s depicted in this episode began when Gabrielle’s daughter, an evil half-demon Hope, kills Xena’s son, Solan, leading to a rift between them.
They both begin to blame each other, Xena for having to lose her son, and Gabrielle for having to destroy her daughter. It’s heart-warming to watch them get over their differences and come back together on realizing the magnitude of love that they share, for which they could give their lives for each other. Watch Xena to keep relishing this beautiful bond.
