Computer Repair

Computer repair and services are important to every business today. Virus attacks, equipment failure, software and device installation are important things. Many people have knowledge of computers but many times there are issues that go deeper than just a surface knowledge. You need someone with experience and in depth information.

Most business today live and die with their network computer systems but what does it take to keep them running reliably? Is there more to computer repair than meets the eye?

  1. Anti virus software, PC viruses are so prevalent today that it is false economy to try to run without it. Even if you are on a private network and think you are safe, all it takes is one person plugging in a SUB drive. Plugging a SUB drive in to your computer triggers auto run and the virus spreads from there. 2. Avoid turning off your computer by the power switch - always do it through Windows. This can cause lost data, disk failure and a host of problems. Sometimes you may need to do this if your computer hangs up, otherwise avoid it. 3. Be sure that your key computers, if not all of your computers are on a UPS. A UPS keeps the power on even during power failures. As seen in the previous point it is dangerous to do a hard power down and a UPS will avoid it. A UPS will also protect you from power spikes and similar computer damaging transients on your power. 4. Backup any data that you can't afford to use. There are many on line backup systems that stores your data off site and there are inexpensive external disk drives that you can connect. Just be sure to do it at least daily. 5. Keep you disk drives healthy and happy, keep your computer running fast by running check disk to clear up problems that may exist and follow that with a fragment. There are programs that can run all the time and def rag as you go. 6. Keep at least 20% free space on your drives. This allows the OS plenty of room to operate and it allows proper fragmenting to happen. As your disk free space shrinks the machine will slow. 7. If you connect to the Internet you need a firewall on your network and on your machines to provide maximum protection from hackers and computer evil doers. 8. Keep your software disks safely filed somewhere. At some point one of your computers will crash and you will need to repair it and reinstall the operating system and all programs. At many businesses these materials are filed haphazardly, maybe thrown in a drawer or a file folder. Set up a system for storing your programs so they can easily be found. Of course the data backups talked about in point 4 are also needed so be sure to do that.
