A trip to a spa should be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, but if you're unsure of spa etiquette, it can turn out to be an opposite experience. Let's use the below suggestions as a rough guideline to make the most out of your spa visit.
-
Arrive early. Be at least 20 minutes earlier than the actual appointment to allow time to check in and change into your bathrobe and slippers. Sometimes, there is a consultation form that you need to fill in.
-
Leave valuable stuff at home. Although spa usually allocates a locker for each customer, it is still the best option to leave unnecessary valuable items such as necklace, rings, and etc at home.
-
Turn off your cellphone. Turn off your cellphone or best leave that in the locker. You do not wish the ringing phone to spoil the calm and relaxing atmosphere. That will certainly annoy you and the others.
-
Request a spa tour. Go for a spa tour to enjoy the surroundings and make yourself comfortable.
-
Choose your therapist. Choose if you want a female or male therapist. Or pick a certified massage therapist who meets your particular requirement.
-
Pick your products and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Ask the therapists to show and explain the products to you and discuss the options.
-
Speak up. If you do not like certain things during your treatment, the pressure, the music, the temperature. Then ask the therapist to make necessary adjustment.
-
Don’t’ talk if you don’t feel like it. It is entirely up to you whether you wish to talk or stay quiet. The therapist will follow your footsteps.
-
Dress comfortably. Massage is usually done completely undress, but you are covered with a sheet/towel at all times. Only the part being massaged is exposed. If you’re more comfortable wearing your underwear, that’s fine. Just tell that to your therapist.
-
Reschedule if you’re not well. Postpone your appointment if you have a cold or migraine as the massage will simulate your circulation and make you feel worse.
-
Take your time once done. After your last treatment, you will be led back to the locker room. There is no specific duration you have to clean up or dress up. You can shower, get dressed, put on your makeup, do your hair, have a cup of tea and etc. before you leave.
-
Pay up and tipping. Carefully check the receipt to ensure the total amount is correct. And tipping is entirely up to you.
Again, spa goers can adopt the above tip as a rough guideline to get the most out of their spa experience.
