Yao's Yiquan Combat Fist Training (I): Not straight three continuous punches - Fixed step

In opposition with most previous training of gathering internal power (post standing) or making it circulate in the body (Testing force).

Here comes a time where the practionner needs not only to improve his Exerting force ability (Fali) but also how to use his internal power

to submit decisively his opponent within the shortest time.

According to Yao Chengguang this is the main purpose of the specific Yiquan Combat Fists.

These fist techniques are said to be extracted from tradtional school such as Xingyiquan but also has integrated some elements of Orthodoc boxing esecially in the "not straight" aspect of the fist.

as results of combat et researches experience from both the two succeeding generations Yiquan inheritors of Yao family.

Among the four most important "combat" fists:

  • Not straight (straight ) punch,

  • Downwards punch,

  • Drilling upwards punch,

  • Horizontal punch.

These Combat Fist techniques will progressively be used in more and more "harshed" situation, for solo practice then pad training with partner and sandbag training.

But also again by increasing the steps during fist techniques.

There is a time for any Yiquan practitioner to apprehend the "Big picture" in his training. Again Yao's method is still offering a realistic plan for those who wish to complete their combat skills.

Training techniques in a "full scale" speed is also required but also bearing the immediate reaction force on

your fist and wrist immediately after your punch...

In a word Yiquan advanced training should train you, in a first stage, to get out all your wole body power up to your fist, progressively with more an more evasive steps. But also strengthen your

fist/wrist to endure the reactive power generated after punching.

Let look further with Not straight (straight) punch.

The best way to learn in the beginning Not straight (straight punch) is to learn it in Fixed step. Learning immediately with Moving steps, Not straight (straight punch) will not only confuse the practitioner

but also makes him hardly apprehend subtle internal sensations such as balance and whole body power.

Why Fixed step not straight three continuous punches: This combination of three punches continuously issued is taking ahead the ability of the practitioner in delivering a larger number of fist within a short period. This is a very useful for any fighter especially when, having identified an attack opportunity, you want to launch an decisive offensive: this type of combination can be the right technique.
