Reduce Cholesterol To Healthy Levels Using Natural Approaches
Cholesterol has been linked to a number of health conditions. High cholesterol is considered responsible for the development of atherosclerosis, which in turn increases the risk for heart attacks and stroke. People with high cholesterol are suggested to reduce cholesterol and aim to maintain it at healthy levels. Healthy levels of cholesterol are equivalent to better health. Therefore, people with high cholesterol must be persistent in their efforts to reduce cholesterol. Natural approaches to reduce cholesterol have been found to have tremendous benefits to health.
Natural Ways to Reduce Cholesterol
Efforts to reduce cholesterol levels have been called for by health agencies since high cholesterol is a healthcare burden in many developed countries. It is essential to maintain cholesterol levels at 200 mg per deciliter of blood to avoid the health consequences associated with it. Reducing the levels of LDL cholesterol is especially important since at high levels, it accumulates in the walls of the arteries, which narrows or blocks the arteries. As a result, passage of blood is restricted and heart conditions develop. While cholesterol medications could help reduce cholesterol levels, natural approaches have been found to have more beneficial effects on health.
Natural ways to reduce cholesterol simply means changing lifestyle, habits and diet. Engaging in physical activities, eating health foods and quitting the smoking habit are just some of the important changes that could be done by an individual to reduce cholesterol levels. Reducing dietary fat intake by 30 percent while increasing intake of dietary fiber from fruits, vegetables, cereals and grains hasten the reduction of cholesterol level. People with high cholesterol must also consider exercising regularly. Maintaining healthy cholesterol levels may not be achieved with dietary changes alone. Hence, diet and lifestyle changes should be done at the same time.
The levels of LDL cholesterol are also affected by smoking. It was found that smokers have higher LDL cholesterol. Though, smoking does not seem to cause any adverse effects on HDL levels, quitting the smoking habit is one way to naturally reduce cholesterol levels. Indeed, healthy lifestyle is essential in maintaining good health. Some people, however, find it difficult to commit to these changes and they are likely to continue facing the risk associated with high cholesterol.

Medications are prescribed to people who need to reduce cholesterol levels. However, it was found that genetic factors may interfere, rendering cholesterol medications ineffective.
