Fast food has dramatically raised the incidence of obesity. Maintaining a healthy body, aside from that fact that it increases self-confidence and improves ones sense of well-being, is related to an improved general health condition. Heart disease and stroke, the leading cause of death in the United States has been associated with obesity as overweight individuals are more likely to have high blood pressure because of the increased levels of cholesterol which predispose them to suffer from heart ailments and stroke. When you lose 5-15% of your weight, this can lower your chances of developing a heart attack or stroke.

Obese individuals extra fat deposits increases insulin resistance thus an increased amount of insulin is needed to control symptoms and complications. Although with the increasing media and society pressure that dictate how men and women should look like, many individuals still continue to live an unhealthy lifestyle without discipline or control. Taking into consideration losing weight, it is important that an obese person learns to accept that he or she is obese before the possibility of starting a weight loss program happens because acceptance is a major catalyst for someone or something to create a change.
