Textile or fabric consists of spun thread or yarn that is obtained from natural or artificial fibers. Yarn is produced when raw wool, cotton, or other material fibers are spun on a spinning wheel, producing long strands that are woven, knitted, or pressed together to form fabrics or textiles. But, there are subtle differences among textile, fabric, and cloth. Any material that is made by interlacing fibers is textile. Fabric is a material that is made by weaving, knitting, or bonding. The finished piece of fabric that is used for various purposes is cloth.
Fabrics are obtained from four main sources - animals give us wool and silk, plants provide cotton flax and jute, minerals give asbestos and glass fiber, and the synthetic materials are nylon and polyester. These fabrics can be made into different strengths and durability, from the delicate gossamer to the tough canvas. There are many different fabrics, but almost all are blends of five basic fabric types - silk, cotton, linen, wool, and worsted.
Cheap Fabrics
Cheap fabrics are obtained by the use of minimal labor and manufacturing processes. Muslin, a light, cheap cotton fabric, is finely woven and often white in color. In the hot, dry climates of India and Bangladesh, where breathable fabric is comfortable, cheap fabric is the most popular choice for clothing and curtains. Sometimes cheap fabrics are used as upholstery for furniture. Being fine, it can also be used to filter wine from the cask to the decanter as well as for myriad colored theatre backdrops due to its versatility. For decorative household items, fashion accessories, and holiday decorations, cheap fabrics are the best bet.
Fabric Choices for Dresses
Whenever a woman thinks of a dress, cotton or silk and their blends is usually her first choice. These dress fabrics provide comfort, and being strong, they last long. Dress fabrics can be dyed in a variety of colors, cut into various shapes, and stitched to create an exciting range of clothes. Even after frequent washing, the dress fabric does not lose its color.
Cotton Fabrics
Cotton, a native to the tropical regions of the world, is a soft, white, fluffy staple fiber. It grows in a boll around the seeds of the cotton plant. Depending on the way the fiber is woven along with other fibers, it can be transformed into a variety of great clothing. The comfort aspect of the cotton fabric is due to its warp and weft. Air is trapped in the fabric structure insulating it, which results in protection from heat in summer and cold in winter. As it breathes, it is comfortable and clothes made only of cotton fabric are perfect for tropical countries. It is flame-retardant, soft, easy-to-sew, and drapes well. It can be washed in machines and does not lose its shape. These qualities make it the principal clothing fabric of the world.
