With the New Year quickly coming around the corner, it is no surprise people are planning their New Years Resolutions. If you are someone who is determined to lose weight this year - you are not alone, as a whopping 1 in 3 people actually select this as one of their New Years Resolutions.

Although wishing it to be a resolution for the new year is important, it is just as important to stick to this goal to make some real changes to create the lifestyle that you have always dreamed of. Here are some tips to help you lose weight and fulfill your New Years Resolution.

Set Goals

Although you have already set the goal of 'losing weight', you need to be specific because losing weight could mean losing 1 pound for the year, or losing 20 pounds. That is a huge difference. So, write your goal down in a journal or perhaps even a food diary. On New Years Day, create a contract with yourself to the promises you have made. A great place to put this is on your fridge and/or kitchen pantry as these are the top 2 places that will either make or break this goal.

Set a Date

Create a plan, where you want to meet a realistic goal to meet some time during the year. Without a doubt, people will say "I'll do it tomorrow" which ends up being never. So what a better way than to start your fitness program on New Years Day itself?

Don't Tempt Yourself

Just knowing that your favorite chocolate, cookie, or ice cream is just enough to want you to 'forget' your whole weight loss resolution altogether. Although exercise is an important part of losing weight, your diet is just as important. That means you should remove all the bad food from your fridge, freezer, and pantry such as chips, cakes, and more so that you have limited access to these temptations. Instead, fill your kitchen with nutritious food such as mushrooms, fruit, turkey breast, vegetables, and fish.

Friends or Family

As 1 in 3 people, including 50% of women who make New Years Resolutions have weight loss as a priority, why not get together to try and push each other on? It is easy to stay motivated when you have companions in the journey to weight loss, so you can eat, exercise, and make this a social activity.
