Health Advantages of Lower Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a compound that plays a vital role in the human body. Specifically, cholesterol performs five important functions. Cholesterol is used by the body in manufacturing steroids and other hormones including testosterone. Cholesterol aids in the liver’s production of bile acids. Also, cholesterol interlocks the lipid molecules to provide stability on the cell membranes. In addition, cholesterol is also important in the nervous system as it an essential part of the myelin sheath. Finally, cholesterol strengthens the immune system. But then again, lower cholesterol proves to be essential to heart health.
Lower Cholesterol To Prevent Heart Diseases
It is interesting to note that a compound as important as cholesterol could also cause the body harm. Studies show that heart attacks and stroke are correlated to the levels of blood cholesterol. The bad cholesterol (LDL) has the ability to accumulate in the walls of arteries and results in atherosclerosis of the narrowing of the arteries. Lower cholesterol level should be maintained in order to prevent the formation of plaque from occurring. The plaque prevents the blood from flowing adequately to the vital organs of the body. If blood cannot reach the organs such as the heart, diseases such as coronary artery disease may result.
Lower cholesterol could then be equated to the health of ones heart. People with high cholesterol have higher risk for heart diseases. It is therefore essential to maintain lower cholesterol levels. Doctors recommend that people should maintain cholesterol level at 200 mg per deciliter of blood. If blood cholesterol is higher than this level, a person is normally at risk for diseases of the heart. A successful effort to prevent diseases of the heart is to examine the contributing factors and seek for effective ways to lower cholesterol levels.

Although diet is a significant contributor to the high cholesterol levels, people must also examine other alterable factors in order to lower cholesterol levels. Stress, anxiety, cigarette smoking, overeating, lack for exercise and high consumption of carbohydrates are all contributing factors to high cholesterol. To lower cholesterol effectively, people must check all these factors and make necessary the necessary change sin their lifestyle.
People who cannot commit to lifestyle changes may seek the help of cholesterol supplements or cholesterol medications. Although medications may work effectively in lowering cholesterol, taking the natural way to lower cholesterol levels will always bring about better effects on ones health. Along with changes in the diet and lifestyle, people with high cholesterol may take cholesterol supplements to help them quickly lower cholesterol levels as well as maintain it at healthy levels.
