This article is part 1 of a two part series that will tell you about the different airsoft parts you can use to upgrade your AEG. As you will soon find out, there are a variety of parts you can get to upgrade your gun. This article will talk about hop up buckings, hop up chambers, barrels, upgrade springs, spring guides, cylinders, cylinder heads, and air nozzles.

Airsoft Hop Up Buckings. Basically, this part puts back spin on the airsoft BB inorder for it to fly farther. In general, a soft hop bucking is used for lower FPS setups (350 or less) and a hard hop up bucking is used for higher FPS setups (350 or more).

Airsoft Hop Up System (Chamber). Inorder for your AEG to shoot more consistently, your AEG has a hop up chamber

Airsoft Barrels. People often change there barrel for a longer/shorter barrel or for a tightbore barrel. The tightbore barrel makes your gun more accurate. Unless you don't use high quality BBs, the tighter the barrel the better. The most common size for a stock AEG barrel is 6.08mm, and tightbores are from 6.05mm to 6.01mm. Some manufacturers put a TN coating on there tightbore barrels so that the gun will have an increase of 10+ FPS.

Airsoft Spring. In short, if your spring is stronger, it will have more velocity. Springs range form M90 to M180. You should use a weaker spring, such as an M90, if you want a high-speed. Inturn, for high-torque setups, you will want a high powered spring (M150 for example). Your gears and other gearbox parts will get damaged if you use a high powered spring with poor quality internals. A spring can either be oil tempered or stainless The M stands for Meter which is what most springs are rated in, Meters Per Second. For instance, an M120 spring is 120 Meters Per Second.

Airsoft Spring Guide. So that you spring won't jump into the gear case, you AEG's gearbox must contain a spring guide. You can either purchase steel or plastic spring guides. If your spring guide has spacers, your muzzle velocity will increase.

Airsoft Cylinder. Inorder for air to be forced down your barrel, you must have a cylinder to compress the air. The shorter your barrel the shorter your cylinder should be. To make the ROF increase, a few manufactures make there cylinders with a teflon coating.

Airsoft Cylinder Head. A high quality cylinder head will either give your AEG a better air seal or it will make it quieter.

Airsoft Air Nozzle. The most important thing the air nozzle does is push a bb into the hop up system (chamber). Another thing it does, is it provides a better air seal.
