When companies plan their team building training for the year, they often overlook the benefits of incorporating health and wellness activities into the program. This is a mistake because only the healthiest teams perform at their peak and form long-lasting bonds. It is difficult to forge relationships and exhibit outstanding customer service when you are tired and stressed. Health and team building go together like peanut butter and jelly, for quite a few reasons.
Concentration is reduced when depression, anxiety, pain, and fatigue creep in. Not only are each of these distractions, they are demotivators and healthy exercise and a good diet are needed to treat them. The chances of the bad feelings spreading to other members of the team will be eliminated and those who were previously affected benefit by incorporating relaxation techniques into their lives.
Even the most sedentary teams can benefit from health and team building sessions. Long hours in and of themselves can take a toll on the body and the endurance needed requires a healthy physique. Those who have healthy joints and muscles are less likely to experience back pain and repetitive strain resulting from desk work. This means they will be at work performing their jobs to their best ability, rather than out sick or at the doctor’s office.
Whether onsite or offsite team building is part of the program, work quality improves when team members are healthy and focused on a common goal. Health and team building exercises help individuals to recognize the importance of rest, physical fitness, and their emotional bonds to workplace success. No longer will they simply be operating in survival mode just to complete the job, they will instead be diligent and focused. This attitude is contagious and soon everyone on the team will be impressing their bosses.
These programs should incorporate things like nutritional seminars, yoga, shiatsu, naturopathy, meditation, relaxation, reflexology, and Tai Chi. Combined with activities focused on building trust and developing relationships, these result in group members being healthy in both mind and body. Since these programs focus on mental and inner strength, they are appropriate for individuals comfortable with any level of physical activity.
When planning the health and team building event, individuals should consider traveling to a facility that accommodates such activities . Toronto, Ontario, Canada is the site of one such location, operated by an experiential event organization called Xpeerience Group. The Polson Pier facility is located right next to the water but what is even better is what awaits you on the premises. Individuals will find beach volleyball courts, an obstacle course, an outdoor rock climbing wall, a gladiator joust, and much more.
The relationship between health and team building should not be underestimated. Whenever a company is planning team building agendas, it should incorporate some education and activities focused on nutrition and healthy living. Energized employees that feel good will perform well every day and co-workers will enjoy interacting with each other no matter what challenge they are facing on the job.
The Xpeerience Group is a Toronto team development group specializing in team buildingevents and practical skills. Whether it be for your corporation, private event, school, or a celebratory occasion, they are able to provide a variety of package options to create your ideal event.
