‘Pop Idol’ was kicked off in 2001, and it won immediate success. But when, after some time, Simon Fuller and Simon Cowell (who were the judges of this show), tried to sell this show to the U.S. audiences, their idea didn’t work. The response was poor and the rating dismal. However, when ‘Pop Idol’ was renamed, there were suddenly a number of people, ready to watch this show. The new show was called American Idol!!
And soon, within a short span of time, the show became the biggest hit on the U.S. entertainment circuit. It garnered umpteen fans, who still love to watch American Idol! Thus, a British show became the favorite of the Americans also, simply by changing its name.
