Relieving the effects of panic attacks can be a struggle and there is much difficulty faced in curing them for many people. However, symptoms can be dealt with or reduced in severity by following some tried and tested steps. To begin with, give some thought to what the causes could possibly be. A traumatic event from the recent past or suppressed issues from childhood may be at the root of the condition. Another possibility is that the stress involved in every day routine have escalated beyond the point that can reasonably be dealt with. If the root problems underlying panic attacks are not dealt with, other related conditions might develop. For example, the fear of having an attack will often result in agoraphobia. Obsessive compulsive disorder can also start.
There are certain triggers, which will tend to bring about panic attacks. The first step towards a cure is to find out what these are. A particular animal or person or a situation or confrontation may be the trigger. The odds of a panic attack occurring are much reduced with the identification of the trigger.
The feelings and symptoms occurring at the onset of a panic attack will be readily recognized by someone who has experienced more than one attack already. The person can talk themselves through the attack and use their familiarity with what is happening to reduce the fear of it, which is one step closer to curing the attacks. The past experience can be used to your benefit, as long as you focus on the fact that you lived through the attack before and you will again. Calm feeling can also be encouraged by taking slow deep breaths.
The symptoms of a panic attack can be reduced during the attack using the methods described here. After this, steps can be looked at to cure the attacks. It is important to stay relaxed and do not get stressed about how to cure the condition with some magic bullet or other sudden cure. This behavior will only add pressure and anxiety, which could increase the chances of panic attack. Furthermore, start to think about consumption of drugs like nicotine, alcohol, and caffeine, and how these may play a part, along with the root cause.
