Security cameras and surveillance in recent years become more widespread in Toronto district. Depending on the application, CCTV cameras can be external or indoor installation. One of the key elements of any CCTV cameras is CCD component. Outdoor video surveillance cameras need additional protection from vandalism, high and low weather conditions, dust and direct sun light.
The primary means of protecting the security camera is outdoor housing. Depending on it functionality camera must receive visual information about the object of observation at all times. In Toronto variety of surveillance enclosures offered on Canadian market. They can be divided into two main types: outdoor thermal and indoor housings. The main difference between these two types is outdoor equipped with heating systems and maintain favorable conditions for the cameras at low temperatures, and indoor housings can provide a high level of protection against vandalism and dust. Indoor housings normally installed inside the premises, while thermal housings can be installed outdoor and indoor locations.
In Toronto, winter temperatures can reach as low as -30 below zero. That is where main purpose of thermal protection of security cameras from the negative impact of environmental factors and, primarily from exposure to low temperatures. Cameras uninterrupted operation is the main factor for placing in in housing. The vast majority of CCTV cameras in Toronto must operate at temperatures ranging from -5C to +50C. An IP camera is even more venerable to the weather. Their lowest working temperature is 0C. Toronto security cameras are normally placed in housing with both heating and cooling systems. During the summer, temperatures in metropolitan can reach as high as +40C. This may damage surveillance camera due to overheat. Therefore heater and fan combination is ideal for outdoor housing.
Some outdoor enclosures are specified by protection IP level. Optimal for outdoor conditions is the class IP66, for maximum protection against dust and strong water jets from any direction is IP68. Another threat for the outdoor camera is risk of condensation on the viewing glass. The traditional way to deal with fog is to place an additional heater inside the housing close to the glass area. Security camera housings are either made of aluminum for outdoor or plastic for indoor use. Housings made of aluminum alloy provide higher vandal resistance and have protection against corrosion.
Room inside of enclosure should be sufficient to accommodate the camera, and additional devices such as lens connectors, etc. Some camera enclosures have additional wire for ground protection in case lightning strike.
