A celebrated martial art form like jiu jitsu which is a self defense system enjoys acceptance among people of many different countries. The most common moves in jiu jitsu are grabbing, wrestling and choke holding which mostly land at least one person on the floor. For this reason, among many others, the most apt brazilian fightwear has to be worn while practicing jiu jitsu.
The basic principle of jiu jitsu is that the size of a person has no bearing on his ability to defend himself. If the proper leverage and strategic technique is used, it is easy for a person of a smaller build to overthrow a larger opponent. Some of these techniques constitute moves like the classic choke hold and locking the joints of the opponent. Always, in jiu jitsu, one must think fast on one's feet.
The right kind of clothing is to be worn for the corresponding kind of technique. For tournaments and events, the universal uniform code has to be strictly adhered to. The clothes have to be light enough without compromising on protection. All the pressure that the moves may put on the joints of the clothing must be withstood and it must not tear easily.
It must also be roomy and enough to accommodate wide motions of the hands and legs. It is best if it is also heat resistant and absorbent to keep the wearer cool in spite of any weather condition or throughout the workout. If it is pre-shrunk you can avoid shrinkage problems after purchase.
Different kinds of events require different kinds of fightwear. For grappling, shorts with drawstrings and velcro are used. They have more leg space and are convenient for the fighter. A thicker collar helps make the kimono hard to hold on to. So, it is easier to get out of a grab. A rubber collar may also help protect the neck and is again, harder to get a hold of and maintain a grip.
There are some specifications that are laid down by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation regarding the uniform for events. No-gi events must have participants wearing black board shorts with black or white rash guards. Women can wear lycra shorts or pants. But, the color must strictly be only black. At least a ten percent of the uniform must indicate the rank color of the participant. New printing techniques like fiber infused printing allow the print to last. Logos can be used anywhere on the shorts and the trim can be of any color according to choice.
It is crucial to have a comfortable crotch on the shorts. They are prone to riding up during practice. A seamless crotch made of stretchable, durable fabric ensures that the fighter is most comfortable. Lightweight uniform is extremely beneficial to the fighter as it allows him to stay cool and also does not add extra weight to his weigh in.
Fightwear sizing is different from the regular clothes sizing. Specific kimono sizing charts are available online. Accessories like gloves, shin pads and mitts may also be purchased. These can be bought as a set for some savings.
