One of the major questions that most people ask is whether they'd consider liposuction. Whether it's because they can't lose that last bit of weight, or feel disfigured in some way by areas of their body that are less than perfect - if they've gained weight through no fault of their own (perhaps because of medication) or because their self-image is tied to their confidence.

Whatever the reason, you can consider liposuction - without guilt or worrying that it's somehow 'cheating'.

Liposuction is basically the removal of fat - but it's not a case of dealing with problems of weight. If you are overweight, liposuction will not make you slim again - not forever anyway - and for that reason, most ethical surgeons will not use liposuction to remove fat from people who are obese or badly overweight.

Liposuction is best when used after a lifestyle is made as healthy as possible, but for whatever reason, the last of the weight just won't shift. It's also good for when people have temporarily gained weight but otherwise have a healthy lifestyle, so need to remove the excess weight they've gained over a period of time. It's not 'cheating' - far from it - it will let you remove fat from your body that you can't otherwise remove. So your first question should always be 'would you consider liposuction?' If the answer is 'yes,' or 'maybe' you should perhaps look further into it.

How Liposuction works

Liposuction removes fat from certain regions of the body, a cannula is inserted through several layers of skin and the fat stored underneath is 'removed' - usually by suction. This suction creates a gap where the body can 'flatten out' because there's less fat left under the skin. In most cases there are several areas that will need to be treated, either to keep a 'balance' to your proportions or to ensure that the maximum amount of fat in that area is removed.

Once your surgeon has suctioned out the fat, the natural reaction of the body is to bruise and swell. This localised swelling should work itself out within a week.

So, would you consider a liposuction procedure as an answer to that last stubborn fat, or to change your body to help your self-image? If the answer is yes, you should contact your local plastic surgeon or your GP and ask them for more information. Liposuction may be the solution you're looking for.
