When it comes to selecting wine goblets that you can use on special occasions most people will generally opt for ones made from crystal. However if you are looking to make more of a statement then why not invest in some good quality silver wine goblets instead.

Certainly if you are someone who prefers a much older feel to their dining table then these types of wine goblets will prove quite appealing. They are made from finer materials than the pewter style ones but they still come with a more traditional look and appeal. Although they may sit well in a more traditional style setting they can add a touch of something unique to a more modern table layout.

Unfortunately if you are intending to purchase silver wine goblets then you are going to discover that these can prove quite expensive in comparison to pewter or crystal ones. Certainly a set of sterling silver goblets may cost you several hundred dollars. However by searching online you are likely to find what you need for somewhat less.

Of course shopping for what you want locally is a good idea and you can then get a real feel for the goblets and how they would look when placed on the table. But of course as stores locally will only stock small numbers of these items they of course charge high costs. So once you have determined which of the silver wine goblets you like the most you can always search for the same or a similar one online. In fact you are going to be able to find some really great deals when you look online for what it is you want.

As you do shop online for such items you will be amazed at the selection you have to choose from. Plus of course you will find yourself saving quite a considerable sum of money even when you take into account the cost of having the items shipped to you. So spending time searching online for this item is worth the effort when you see just how much you can save yourself.

Today you have the option to purchase ones that are made from sterling silver or ones that are have been covered in silver (Silver Plated). The second type is the least expensive and if properly maintained will look just as good as those that are made from sterling silver.

Of course if you can afford to purchase wine goblets made from sterling silver this is a far better option as they are considerably more durable than the silver plated kind. But you need to be careful as some sterling silver goblets aren't all they seem. To ensure that you have the finest quality goblets possible look for the hallmark. This has been developed over the years and the main purpose is as follows.

  1. It indicates how pure the silver alloy used in the creation of the goblets is.

  2. It tells you which company or silversmith actually made the piece.

  3. Finally it will tell you the date and/or the location of where the piece was manufactured or where the silversmith who created the piece comes from.

If there is no evidence of a hallmark on a piece claiming to be sterling silver then of course it isn't. So purchasing such pieces should be avoided at all costs.

However once you have spent money on your goblets it is important that you take good care of them whether made from sterling silver or they are silver plated. Below we offer some tips on how to care for your wine goblets that are silver plated to ensure that they remain looking as wonderful as the day first purchased.

Step 1 - When it comes to cleaning your silver wine goblets after they have been used do so in some warm water to which has been added a mild dishwashing soap. To help remove any residue from inside the goblets use a sponge. What is important however is that you should never place these items in to a dishwasher as this will actually cause damage to them because the heat of the water is far too hot even when you put it on at the lowest temperature.

Step 2 - To keep your wine goblets looking as wonderful as they day when purchased it is best after washing and drying them that you store them away until you required them again. If you can place inside a velvet lined box or bag in which a piece of blackboard chalk has also been placed. Inserting a piece of chalk will help to remove the humidity from the bag slowing the process of tarnishing down. Plus placing the items in velvet will help to keep moisture away from the goblets and so reduce the risk of them becoming tarnished more quickly.

Step 3 - If your silver plated wine goblets do become tarnished then to remove this you simply have to sprinkle them with some salt. Then simply rub the goblets clean with a soft clean rag that has been dipped in a small amount of white vinegar.

However if you notice that there are much darker stains on the goblets especially where they have been used for drinking red wine then place them in a bowl. To this you add some baking soda along with some white vinegar to cover them completely. As soon as the vinegar comes into contact with the baking soda the mixture will bubble and foam. Now leave the silver wine goblets in this mixture for a few minutes. Then you simply follow step 1 to help remove all residue from the goblets and have them looking as wonderful as when you first purchased them.

As already mentioned the more you take care of your silver wine goblets then the much more beautiful they will look for years to come. Plus it will also mean that they will last for many years to come and will add a beautiful addition to any table when you have guests round for any special occasion.
