There are plenty of diets out there that promise quick weight loss. However, many of these crash diets can actually leave you sick as they are not meant to be used forever - just for a period of less than a week. Always consult your Doctor or other Health Care Professional when you do start a fad diet because sometimes they really are less than ideal and are not healthy or balanced.

Below are some helpful hints for those who are going on these instant weight loss diets.

Duration of Time

Do not do a crash fad diet for over 3 - 7 days. This is because they are not meant to be used for extended periods as they are not balanced. This includes the Atkins diet which claims that it can be used for a long time - even forever. However, many Doctors warn against this diet unless in certain circumstances where it can be beneficial for about a week.

Overexertion

Although it may be hip and cool because everyone you know is doing it or many celebrities are doing it - try not to overexert yourself. This is because going on a quick weight loss diet as well as overexerting yourself will just be too stressful on your body.

Become Anti-Social... Temporarily

Not to scare people off, but going out for dinner with friends or family or other social activities can be annoying during a crash diet. While your family or friends are eating to their hearts content, you are eating something tiny or perhaps even less 'tasty' than what they are eating.

What About the Hunger Pains?

When you are quickly changing your diet, there is no doubt that you will get hunger pains. The best thing to do if you feel rather hungry is to drink cold water. You can also suck on ice in order to calm down your hunger pains.

After the dieting

After the crash diet, do not go back on your original diet. After all, you are supposed to have changed your eating habits and lifestyle to become healthier and more balanced - so do not celebrate the end of your crash diet with food!

Now that you know the tips on how to go on a fad diet, below are 2 of the famous fad diets from around the world:

Cabbage Soup Diet

Also known as the Military Cabbage Soup, Scared Heart Diet, Russian peasant Diet, and the General Motors Diet, this was popular in the 1980s. This radical diet is based around consuming low-calorie cabbage soup over a period of 7 days. The rule is that you can only have cabbage soup, but you can have as much cabbage soup as you desire.

Grapefruit Diet

Love grapefruit? You would have to if you went on the Grapefruit diet, which was popular in the 1930s. Incorrectly called the Mayo Clinic Diet, it revolves around drinking grapefruit juice or eating half a grapefruit in order to reduce your calorie intake to less than 800 calories a day.
