The simple fact that there's a store that sells. Also, it doesn't make it a smart idea just to buy their least expensive option.
There are a few very critical elements you should pay close attention to before making a wakeboard purchase.
The first and foremost is of course safety. Both veterans and newcomers to wakeboarding need to put safety first. Not only should the wakeboard be suitable for your skill level, if you're a shopper of discount wakeboards the money that was saved by not buying new should be put towards the purchase of a wakeboard vest.
Speaking of safety, you need to make sure you know your level of skill. Beginners would be best served by longer, heavier boards because they're more stable. After the boarder can stand up and make basic maneuvers with ease, then an upgrade to lighter, shorter boards can be considered. There's even the board's rocker to consider, which is a word to define the level of curvature on the board. To put it simply, long wide boards with high rockers are best for beginners. The rest are best left to the pros. That there are so many boards for so many levels of boarders explains why wakeboarding is so expensive a sport to take up. Those new to the sport will likely blow through their first few sets of boards within a year or so. That fact alone makes opting for discount wakeboards is such a smart way to go.
Once you've picked out your new equipment, the next stop at either a new or discount wakeboards shop is the binding section. That goes for used boards with used bindings; and even if the store is willing to give you a free set, which aren't as safe or secure as custom ones, the best bet is to get your own set. Every boarder has their own comfort level and comfort is key when trying to keep your head above water!
Lastly, make sure not to let the price be your sole deciding factor. Whether you're buying new or discount wakeboards, the most important thing is that the equipment suits your weight, that it can hold up to your skill and above all, makes you excited to go out and pursue the sport with everything you've got!
