It is essential to have a dog collar on your dog, as it is often the law in most places to have your rabies shot tag attached to your dog for safety measures. Although they are necessary, a common fashion and trend today, is to have personalized dog collars for your dogs, and in fact a lot of dog owners don't mind spending a bit to get a unique dog collar for their dog.
Perrsonalized dog collars can instantly make the best of the situation and they also give your dog the most unique look.
Here are some tips and advice on finding the best personalized dog collar.....
Depending on the kind of dog you have, you can get all kinds of custom designed collars in all makes of collars, including regular snap on collars, leather, and martingales. These also make good gifts, as you can get them designed to suit and reflect the personality and likes of the canine owner.
Kinds of collars -
Gold, silver, platinum, and other precious metals can be added to the collar to make it unique, and you can also choose from many different materials for the collar itself, such as suede, leather, vinyl, and even cotton.
You may also have unique gemstones like rubies, zircons, crystals... and even diamonds, put on the collar and designed in gorgeous patterns.
The most common and popular use of gemstones on collars, is crystals placed to spell out your pet's name onto the collar, and also to add unique patterns, if desired. The good thing about designer collars and unique collars, is that they are both fancy, yet they are also functional.
Sizing -
It's very important that you have the proper measurement for your dog's collar, as not all charts and general sizes (small, medium, large etc...) will fit your dog, since the collars are customized in the first place.
While some collars do come in sizes .like small, medium, and large; most often a dog's collar is measured in inches, and you can check the chart below to see some common measurements:
-
Tiny dogs (ex. teacup), 8-9 inches
-
small sized dogs, 10-14 inches
-
Small to medium dogs, 14 to16 in
-
Medium- 16-18 inches
-
Large- 20-22 inches
-
Very Large Breeds, 22 to 24 inches
The common width for most collars is ? of an inch to around 1 inch, but they can be customized, of course to be more or less.
A good example to help you figure out the scale of the chart, is to look at Jack Russels, as they most often fall into the small dog category, of about a 10-14 inch collar. Bigger dogs, like Dalmatians and retrievers often fall into the small to large category, which is why you should measure your dog's size for his/her collar.
