B2B Social Media
B2B Social Media Marketing has the same set of rules as B2C social media marketing. This is often a surprise for most businesses, but the fact is that even on a business to business level, people buy from people they know, like and trust.
However, there are ways in which people expect you to behave as a business and this is determined by the market place you are in. So you social media marketing must reflect that, whether you are in B2B or B2C. For example a lawyer that specialises in corporate contract law (B2B) must project knowledge of the subject in a professional business like way, and a lawyer that specialised in family law (B2C) must also project knowledge of the subject in a professional business like way. The customer – the target audience – is completely different but the professionalism projected must be the same because that is determined by the industry.
B2C and B2B in Social Media Marketing
The principles of social media marketing will stay the same regardless of whether it is B2C or B2B, but the implementation will vary dependent on a number of factors. For example if you are promoting IT products (computer hardware, software, networking, etc) then your emphasis is going to be very different to someone who is promoting a professional service (lawyer, accountant, consultant, etc). Both can be done within the social networks, but the content and structure will be completely different.
So whether B2B or B2C marketing, the systems and structures remain the same, but the content and the audience will be different.
How to Effectively Work With a Social Media Marketing Agency in Your Industry
So your social media marketing agency should know the structures of getting the message out there, getting your site to the front page of Google and building a tribe of raving fan followers, what you need to do is ensure that the content is in line with your industry and the audience you are targeting. So working with your social media marketing agency, whether B2B or B2C, is very much a partnership, one that allows you to guide the project without having to run it on a day to day basis.
