Plumbing is a part of our every day life. It is so seamless and invisible that we completely take it for granted. That is, until something goes wrong. Problems can range from minor faucet drips to full on sewage backups, and the solutions may be just as varied. This article will outline a few of the common problems encountered by professional and amateur plumbers alike and what you can do to solve them in a financially efficient manner. Keep in mind that there are a few problems you can fix yourself, but a lot of the large disasters are best left to the experts.
Looking around your house will quickly and easily come up with a list of potential plumbing problems. The kitchen faucet, the dishwasher, bathroom toilet, shower, washing machine, and water heater all require running water to run smoothly or even operate whatsoever. Pipes between walls, under flooring and in ceilings transport the water and sewage in different directions. Pressure in pipes is determined based on the width of the pipe and the types of valves used. Problems with the system can occur anywhere along the entire length of the pipe or within the fixture itself. Determining where the problem lies and diagnosing the steps needed is the first step in fixing your plumbing problem.
Once you have diagnosed the pluming problem, the next step involves evaluating your time, tools and expertise. If your problem is particularly complex and you are lacking in any of the above three factors, then you may want to consider hiring a plumber to do the job for you. While plumbers can be expensive and often charge up to $80 per hour, they can be worth their weight in gold to you if they fix the problem right the first time. Inexperience may lead to mistakes and bigger or more expensive problems down the road. Carefully evaluate your time, tools and expertise. Be honest with yourself. If you are willing to invest the time to tackle a particularly large job, then good for you! Many of us, however, would rather trust the experts, and there is no harm or shame in admitting that.
Next, it is important to consider the basics of plumbing. Even if you don’t intend to do the work yourself or get a degree in plumbing, it will be helpful to know the basics and language when discussing the solution and work with your plumber. This will help the job to be done efficiently and quickly with communication clear on both sides. The water system in your home is generally based on two different systems: water supply to your home is delivered under pressure and sewage or septic waste removed from your home is drained by gravity. These systems use different types of pipes and valves.
Contact a professional plumber in your area today with any concerns you may have with your household or business water supply. They will be able to provide you with a professional and reliable quote to get your water running smoothly again.
