Nowadays peoples lifestyle strongly relies on mobility. Portable Computers, cell phones and other advanced electronic devices allow people be more productive than ever before. Portable power sources are the basis of mobility.

Fortunately, this advancement in electronics is matched with improvements in batteries that power these devices. Although they do not even use heavy-metal in the making Ni-NH batteries provide much more power than the traditional Ni-Cd cells. Sealed Ni-Mh rechargeable batteries use a new technology that delivers perfect performance and environmental friendliness for modern mobile devices.

Ni-Mh batteries have been introduced in 1988, but although they are still at an early stage of development they have already proven that they are an excellent power source for modern electronic devices.

Among the many improvements over Ni-Cd batteries Ni -Mh batteries have a 40% higher power density. With a higher energy density, the battery runs longer and therefore need less charge/discharge cycles and lives longer. Also, they have a dramatically shorter charging time of an hour. They also provide the robustness and safety needed for the everyday use in modern electronic devices. In contrast to Ni-Cd and other cells, they are environmental friendly, as they do not contain lead, cadmium or mercury.

Today, the Ni-MH battery is hugely popular with high-end portable electronic devices where the performance of the battery translates into run-time, which is a major consideration for a consumer and influences their decision in the purchase of product. The weight reduction and reduced size are also important factors.

There is a lot of similarity between Ni-MH and Ni-Cd batteries when it comes to the technology they use. They differ by the electrodes used: Ni-MH batteries use hydrogen-absorbing negative electrodes and Ni-Cd cells use cadmium based diodes. With this small difference the electrical capacity improves and toxicity is eliminated. The memory effect does not apply as there is no cadmium used in the battery.

These batteries are designed to ensure maximum safety with a safety vent, to avoid build up of pressure in case of being exposed to high temperature, charged excessively or abused in other ways. The only limit is that they have to be kept dry and clean in use and in storage. They can be stored charged or discharged without any problem.

I have been working with battery driven vehicles and devices for ages. The short life of expensive batteries has always frustrated me, that's why I now recondition batteries for my own use to save money or to even make money by selling them.
