Not many football players can brag about being known to win 4 Super Bowls. Two-time league MVP quarter back Joe Montana tops the list of best NFL Quarterbacks in history. He delivered the most amazing sportsmanship with flair as his passes were known to be flawless.
"Sweetness"comes with many definitions but in the world of football, Walter Payton defines it perfectly. He is a record holder for touchdowns, carries, and rushing yards. He was also a nine-time Pro Bowl selection which makes him the envy of a lot of professional NFL footballers. Some even regard him as the best footballer of all time.
Another football player that stands as a leader of the game is Jim Brown. He is known at his performance for being a record holder in a single season and for all-time. Before retiring, Brown mastered the art of touchdowns and career rushing, making him one of the best footballers ever. Over the span of 1957-1965, he held his own as a force to be reckoned with.
In the wide receiver category, Jerry Rice is the name that made fans scream and cheer on. He boasts experience in the Pro Bowl 13 times! In his time with the NFL, he was made All-Pro 11 times too. To some, his record score of 207 touchdowns makes him the best all time pro wide receiver.
Great things have come and have yet to happen from Randy Moss, wide receiver. Even at 34, he has amazed fans with 14,465 yards, 926 receptions, and 148 touchdowns. As controversial as his career has been, he is expected to be a record breaker by the end of it.
The tight end position is a challenging one to football players but one man is known to have perfected the task of being one. Between 1979 and 1987, Kellen Winslow had set a tight end record of 1290 yards in a single season. In a single game, he had accomplished five touchdown passes—tying the record and making him known as one of the best TE’s.
One footballer with a long successful career as a corner back is Rod Woodson. With 16 years of defense, he has been known for his powerful career interception return yardage and strategic interception returns for touchdowns. In 1993, he was given the title NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
One early defense player was Mel Blount. Between 1970 and 1983, he struck fear and physical intimidation for the opposing team. He took advantage of the absence of the pass interference rule to become an unstoppable corner back.
Many football fans remember Ronnie Lott to have 14 NFL seasons of pure excitement and shock. With his staggering record of 8.5 sacks and 63 interceptions, 730 yards, and 5 touchdowns, no doubt his influence inspires footballers around the world.
Predictability is not a characteristic you’d want as an athlete but Ken Houston proved that as long as there is consistency in playing, no one can stop you. In his 12-year career he played spectacularly with his numerous interceptions, recovery, return yards, and touchdowns.
Probably the best defensive NFL player of all time, Lawrence Taylor showed the world that winning 3 Defensive Player of the Year award and the league’s MVP is possible.
One line backer that deserves recognition is Dick Butkus. Some teams would not have survived if not for the play of Butkus. He was known to be a fierce linebacker during his time and was a leading drive for the teams he was in.
Defensive football players aim for a record that will welcome them into the 20/20 Club. Jack Ham is only one of 8 members that have had more than 20 interceptions and 20 sacks.
