The real name of Echo is Caroline Farrell, who was a student in Los Angeles University. She, with her boyfriend Leo, wanted to expose the animal-abuse operations that were taking place in a secretive laboratory.

The work was happening in the same lab, whose company carried research for the creation of Dollhouse. Caroline and Leo entered the lab secretly, carrying cameras, to check the scene profoundly. They not only found encaged animals, but also human brains and infants. Then, Caroline and Leo got trapped in the organization.
